There’s a lot to look forward to on the Frontier Partisans front in 2016.
- The Anvil Blasters are finishing up work on recording three of my original songs which will be available as rewards in my Kickstarter campaign to fund publication of “Warriors of the Wild Lands: True Tales of the Frontier Partisans.” Expect to have the Kickstarter ready to roll in February or March, with publication by summer.
- “The Revenant” hits screens on January 8.
- There are several of important centennial anniversaries from the Mexican Revolution coming up, which I’ll be covering here. I’m hoping for an upsurge in interest with the centennial of Pancho Villa’s raid on Columbus, NM, and Pershing’s Punitive Expedition.
- A new biography of Frederick Russell Burnham is coming January 25 — “A Splendid Savage: The Restless Life of Frederick Russell Burnham.” I’ll have it in hand for a review in short order.

- “The Apache Wars: The Hunt for Geronimo, the Apache Kid, and the Captive Boy Who Started the Longest War in American History” by Paul Andrew Hutton is set for release May 3. The “captive boy” is Mickey Free. I’m very pleased that Hutton is taking this on. He’s a good writer, with lots of verve, and Mickey Free deserves the attention. I recently got a bio of Mickey Free through interlibrary loan. Man, am I glad I didn’t pay the $50 asking price for that one. Dry as Arizona dust. How you can do that to an intrinsically fascinating story is beyond me.
- “Big Game Hunter: A Biography of Frederick Courteney Selous” drops on June 1. It’s the first biography of Selous in decades.
- Cinemax’s badass “Banshee” wraps up its run.
What were the most popular posts of 2015? Glad you asked. No. 1 and No. 2 are neck-and-neck: Now THAT’S a Sport Part II — Badass, Beautiful Biathletes and The Guns of Blood Meridian.
The Guns of Pancho Villa; Al Sieber: Chief of Scouts; and Rewilding — Searching for the Sweet Spot were also big, as were The Deadliest Frontier Partisan — Captain Jonathan R. Davis and Gone Banshee. Some of those posts are a couple of years old, which is pretty interesting.
My takeaway: Frontier Partisan readers like beautiful women and guns — and beautiful (athletic) women with guns. Happy to oblige…
