Revisiting Solas’ outstanding concept album “Shamrock City.” It tells the tale of Irish miners who worked the copper mines in Butte, Montana, in the early 20th Century.
Tough men, tough town.
The story of Butte is the story of a frontier boom town, the story of the rise of labor unions, megacorporations – and environmental degradation on a mind-boggling scale.
Here for ye is “Tell God And The Devil,” a paean to the miners who entered “the richest hill on earth” to dig the copper, risking their lives to enrich the big men — and make a better life for themselves and their families. Followed by some clips from a PBS documentary “Butte, America” and some exquisite contemporary photographs shot by my dear friend and Frontier Partisans partner-in-crime, Lynn Woodward.
