Frontier Partisans

The Adventurers, Rangers and Scouts Who Fought the Battles of Empire

Yellowstone News & Badass Of The Year

December 6, 2024, by JimC

Frontier Partisan Badass of the Year honors for 2024 have been decided. There  is a sole contender. Per BBC:

A man in Canada’s far north leapt on to a polar bear to protect his wife from being mauled, police say. The unnamed man suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover, according to the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.

A bear attack is about as bad as it gets in the wild. Ask Mountain Man Jed Smith, who got his scalp an an ear nearly ripped off by a grizzly bear in the Black Hills. He made Jim Clyman sew his scalp and ear back in place, rested 10 days, then headed on out. Hugh Glass, well, you prolly know his story, which inspired The Revenant.

Those guys lived. Andy Sublette wasn’t so lucky — a grizz killed him in Malibu. That bear on the California flag isn’t there for nothing.

“Caught Off Guard,” by the great David Wright.

Polar Bears are even more daunting than grizz and anybody who would jump on one to save his wife deserves all the mead he can drink in a hall of heroes.

“The woman slipped to ground as her husband leapt on to the animal to prevent its attack,” police said in a statement. “The bear then attacked the male, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and legs.”

A neighbour arrived with a gun and shot the bear several times. It retreated into nearby woods where it died of its injuries.

The man was transported to a community nursing station where he was treated for his injuries.

Nishnawbe Aski police said they “continued to patrol the area to ensure no other bears were roaming the community.”

Hat tip to Craig Rullman for scouting up this story.

Brave man! good thing a neighbor showed up with a gun.

    https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/liberal-gun-ban-expands

The great white north is bent on banning guns and sending the collected ones to the Ukraine to fight tyrants.

    Seems confusing. wth???

    Anyway

Hats off to the brave man.

Yep and not only them- seems like somebody or something poisoned the worlds water supply with woke. seems weird as hell-old and confused..

I went up there a couple of times to practice K.F. with a teacher who had a AR 10 and a gun collection- 25 plus years ago. They had a real hunting and shooting culture. And bears the size of buffalos. I saw Griz at Banff park holey chit..

Not going into the woods there with a sling shot they might be down to Hawken’s up there pretty soon…

Hope they can vote themselves out.

Brave man and ‘Husband of the Year’.

I bet the missus didn’t stand up, snake her head side to side, and holler, “I don’t NEED no man!” after THAT one.
