“The Revenant” captures the stark, compelling beauty of the wilderness — a beauty that exalts your spirit even as it break your heart — and maybe kills you. Using only natural light may have made for an arduous shoot, but damned if it didn’t create what looks to be a visual masterpiece. For me, the Mountain Man era has always carried an air of the near-fantastical, and the images here capture that feeling as well.

    I’ve seen the movie, and will refrain from comment until you’ve seen it. As your posting suggests, the cinematography is beyond excellent. It is a work of art irrespective of plot or casting. I will need to watch it at least two or three times to fully appreciate the visuals.
