Rundezvous: An obstacle race based around 19th Century frontier skills. How fun.
Looks like this is based out of Illinois, but it would go over really well in Oregon. Wish that it included the rifle, but it’s easy to understand why that would be off the menu. I love the Spartan Race concept — and I sometimes steal their WOD — but this, obviously, has a bit more resonance for me. I also like the emphasis on skills as well as strength and stamina.
Thanks to Darthgall at the REH Forum for the tip.
| Archery: Draw the bow, take careful aim, breath out, then let her loose! If you don’t hit the target in the required shots it will cost you. | ![]() |
Ropes & Knots: Know a few knots and you’ll be free in no time. Duplicate the examples on the trail, but one wrong turn of the rope could send you back to repeat them.

Bear Bag Hoist: Bag it and hang it. This is meant to be a challenge, so forget the food that would typically be secured. Lets put some weight behind it and hoist some logs instead. | ![]() |
Sawing: Make some saw dust and cut a slab off your log. Get into a rhythm and you’ll be done in no time as long as you can push through the burn. |
![]() |
Compass: You’ll need your bearings for this orienteering event. No maps needed, just report the degrees (bearing) of the target using a compass. | ![]() |
Shelter: Stake and pitch it securely to protect yourself from the elements. There are at least five ways to get this done with 1-2 trees, tarp, stakes, and your rope. |
![]() |
Elk Drag: Okay, so no elk, but it’s still going to be a drag. Assemble the sled, secure the load with your rope, then take it for a ride. | ![]() |
Sling Shot: Aim carefully or you don’t move on. A carnival game of knocking the cans of the podium using sling shots made of buckthorn trees. |
| Fire Starting: Just a spark is all you’ll need to turn up the heat. We supply the required equipment you supply the skill. | ![]() |
Trapping: No bear traps here, just gravity and a little ingenuity. This basic figure four trap is simple in theory, but takes patients to construct.
![]() |
Hatchet Throwing: This is what started it all and will finish it all. All you need is one of five throws to stick, but will the pressure get to you with the finish line in sight. | ![]() |
Trivia: Just a few questions to test what you know. Answer three questions correctly about the general outdoors and nature and you’re free to move on. |
![]() |
Identification / Memory: If you know it, you should remember it, or else. This may seem easy when you see it, but stress and time may take its toll before you have to recall the information. | Water Carry: The more you spill, the more you travel. Store some water from the watering hole, but how you get it there is the trick.
![]() |
Lasso: Yee Ha! It’s all in the wrist and follow through. Don’t over think it, it’s only a fence post you have to lasso. For some though this could be the hardest of the events. | ![]() |
Wood Pile: How fast can you stack. Move your wood from point A to point B and make it look good. |
![]() |
Logging: Split and stack.Use the ax and take careful aim, you don’t want to miss! |

Looks like fun, but where’s the “splitting” event? I’ve been told more than once I have an uncommon talent in that (maybe by people who didn’t want to do it themselves).
