Netflix has ordered a six-episode adventure period drama, “Frontier,” with helmer Brad Peyton, who directed the box office hit “San Andreas,” and Jason Momoa attached to star, Variety has learned.
The drama is slated for a 2016 debut on Netflix …
“Frontier” is a drama following the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. Told from multiple perspectives, the series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.

Good news! If the writing’s up to scratch, this should give Jason a chance to shine. Can’t wait for the “hatchet fights”! Some “gunstock club” action a la Chingachgook from “Mohicans” would be appreciated as well. Hope Wes Studi will make an appearance at some point.

Sounds like it might have been inspired by Vardis Fisher’s novel “Pemmican,” about the rivalry between the old Hudson’s Bay Company and the upstart American companies (who were in turn rivals of each other) at the very outset of the Rocky Mountain fur trade era.

I’m eager to find out more about the source material and the orientation of the storyline. I hope I’m not getting my hopes up too high….
