The forthcoming History Channel miniseries “Texas Rising,” about the early days of the Republic, seems to be on track for its release next year.
Rolling Stone had a small piece on a bit of casting: Kris Kristofferson as Andrew Jackson.
Kristofferson has been tapped to play President Andrew Jackson in an eight-hour television event centered around the Texas revolution from Mexico in 1835. The seventh president of the United States was a champion of American emigrants to Texas who eventually won independence from Mexico.
“This iconic story and role really needed an American who is able to command the screen and captivate audiences,” executive producer Leslie Greif tells the Hollywood Reporter. “For me, Kris was an obvious choice. There aren’t too many actors that are able to embody this character and the stature, strength and liberty to play the part.”
Also starring in Texas Rising are Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Olivier Martinez, Chad Michael Murray and Michael Rapaport. The miniseries will air on the History Channel sometime next year.
And this from TV Line:
The eight-hour project — which comes from the producers of Hatfields & McCoys — explores the revolution against Mexico and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers.
(Bill) Paxton — who plays Sam Houston, the father of Texas — will be joined by Brendan Fraser (The Mummy films) as a Texas Ranger with Comanche Indian ties; Ray Liotta (Smith, Goodfellas) as an Alamo survivor seeking brutal revenge; Morgan as a deaf and grizzled veteran Texas Ranger with an advanced case of consumption; Murray as a spirited Texas soldier who helps win the battle of San Jacinto; and Thomas Jane (Hung) as a homesteader who finds himself living in the middle of hostile Indian territory.
Also starring are Olivier Martinez (soon to be seen on Revenge) as President General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the tyrant dictator of Mexico; Michael Rapaport (Justified) as a would-be deserter and coward turned hero; and Max Thieriot (Bates Motel) as a volunteer freedom fighter who becomes the youngest Texas Ranger.
Texas Rising is slated to debut in 2015.
