Things got pretty wild in Khartoum Sunday as the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) clashed heavily with the Sudanese Armed Forces. The RSF are something like Wagner in Russia: a private military force that also has tentacles embedded deeply into the economic life — such as it is — of Sudan. Particularly in mining.
The RSF evolved out of the Janjaweed militias that terrorized Darfur.
Seriously bad dudes. Supposedly they were to be integrated into the army, but that clearly didn’t go so well.
