Two Classical pieces that pop into mind instantly are the “Masquerade Waltz” and “Night On Bald Mountain”. I’m sure there are many spooky movie themes I’ve heard, if I can just recall from what……

And, I’m not a synth rock guy, but John Carpenter’s first LOST THEMES album is helluva good bed music for writing horror tales. Maybe not traditional ghost stuff, but if you’re writing monsters and/or terror with a modern flair, it hits the spot.

    “(Ghost) Riders In The Sky”

An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
Plowing through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cries”

Great tunes Jim! I’ll leave this Iron Horse cover as my offering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SslKMvv2F4A&feature=emb_title There’s something about bluegrass or folk covers of Metal songs that just get me vibe.

Hungry mother always has the creepy element for me. Nothing more terrifying than stalking a capable enemy in his own terrain.

    The Shankill Butchers seems appropriate.

I mean…it’s not specifically tied to Halloween, but it does have an Irish death squad stalking the darkened streets of Belfast. The original was by The Decembrists with a cover by the inimitable Sarah Jarosz. Of the two the latter is the superior version. Hard to think of a voice that could carry it better.

Quite possibly my favorite murder lullaby.

Oh my. She is SO good. She was set to play at the Sisters Folk Festival in 17 when we had to cancel due to the Milli Fire. Ceili interviewed her. Such a bummer…

Absolutely agreed! Ever since Pandora graced me with her “Annabelle Lee” song, I’ve been a big fan.

    Fun piece of trivia:

I was not previously aware that she was from Wimberly. Something of a surprised, being as I spent a decade of my mal-formative years in Dripping Springs.

She has a rare sound, that one.

Just listened to the Wendigo song which is fitting because about a week ago I read Algernon Blackwood’s “The Wendigo” probably the best camping horror story there is. Except perhaps for his “The Willows.”

It occurs to me that The Ghost of Old 83 might fit, too.

    Plus, Dave Stamey.

    SKINWALKER, Robbie Robertson
She broke down, on a highway
Miles from nowhere, it had no number
She was lost, a long way from home
She was fed up with the routine
She got trouble with her man
She blew town with a vengeance
    Painted desert, peyote rain
Lord, don’t let me go insane
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
Who am I, who are you
    I was only passing through
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
A strange encounter to be sure
He was wicked he was pure
Hear him calling, he’s calling for you
Come with me into the mystic
Come with me into the night
    We can live, live forever
    Painted desert, peyote rain
Lord, don’t let me go insane
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
Through your eyes I can see
You have left your mark on me
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
    Painted desert, peyote rain
Lord, don’t let me go insane
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
He takes you to a sacred place
And drinks a tear off your face
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
    Talk to the spirits
    Talk to the wind
    Skinwalker, skinwalker
    Ceremony of the Cloud People
