“He is a perfect balance between storyteller and badass warrior.”
OK, I’m interested.
This December, Netflix is launching another original series, a lavishly-produced epic on the journeys of Marco Polo. Everybody’s heard the name of the Renaissance-era Italian merchant who penetrated the Wild East and came back with strange tales that were half-believed. It’s one of the great epics of travel and exploration into unknown lands.
Here’s an extended video look at the series and some stills to whet the appetite.

Dang, we must be on the same collective-unconscious-moon-phase er something! I JUST finished a GREAT book about nomadic pastoralist Mongols in the 20th century, and their views and fights with WOLVES, yet accepting the NECESSITY of the wolves and how wolves had shaped them as a culture–titled “Wolf Totem”, by a Chinese author; and although I’m sure some things were lost in translation, I LOVED the book(total wolf geek that I am, loving wolves warts and all, having known a few personally!), and it got me more interested in Mongolian culture, so I began buying cheap DVD’s, etc.–mainly about Ghengis Khan–an EXCELLENT movie about “Temujin’s”(Ghengis’s) early life–BEAUTIFULLY filmed and so naturally “acted” is “Mongol”–HIGHLY recommended–cheap and readily available on Amazon! INCREDIBLE that this oppressed social outcast and virtual nobody ended up uniting the Mongols and creating one of the greatest and most sweeping empires the world has ever known!!! I also tried to find what I thought–many many years ago(1980’s)–was a great miniseries on Marco Polo(also with a great soundtrack I had on old fashioned record for years!) with Ken Marshall(?) as the main actor. But way too expensive for me, alas. At least at the moment. Always pays to check and recheck on Amazon! Another more recent series on Marco Polo available, but I cringed at the thought of (otherwise a great actor, though!) Brian Dennehy as Kublai Khan!!! But it was cheapo, and I’ll likely end up getting that one too, one day…..And I’ll definitely keep my eyes out for this one, too!!!

“Mongol” is very well done.
