The East Pointers at the Village Green, Sisters Folk Festival 2016.

Last weekend was the 21st Sisters Folk Festival. I’ve been involved with the Festival since its humble beginnings, and have watched like a proud papa as it has grown into a music event of international stature. There were many highlights of course, but one I’d particularly like to share: The East Pointers kicked things off on Friday night, September 9, at the Village Green Stage, which is my venue to manage. And they smoked it. Don’t have any video from that performance, but this one from Celtic Colours gives you a flavor.

Traditional Celtic music played with energy, precision and a 21st century twist. They get huge bottom from a stomp pad. The fiddle player is working both feet, fiddling and sometimes singing. The tenor banjo player is sharp as a skinning knife and the guitarist can get monster bass tone out of his acoustic.

They  played at the local schools earlier in the week and my daughter followed them all over town for multiple sets. As one of the band member noted, “We played a Ceili — and we met one!”

Seems they had a good time:

What a sawwweeet few days in Oregon. A huge Canadian thank you to everyone who makes Sisters Folk Festival what it is, a beautiful music lovers paradise To the volunteers, the crew, the amazing audiences and to Brad (that’s Brad Tisdel, Creative Director), you are all friggin’ awesome and we can’t wait to see you again!!

See ’em if you ever get the chance. Dance with wild abandon! At the very least, buy a CD, play it in the car and drive too fast.

These guys rocked it; I couldn’t sit down when they were playing! Gotta have Ceili teach me some step-dancing moves before they come back to Sisters!
