The Adventurers, Rangers and Scouts Who Fought the Battles of Empire

RIP Doc Watson

May 29, 2012, by JimC

 I have seen the David

Seen the Mona Lisa, too

And I have heard Doc Watson play “Columbus Stockade Blues”

—   Guy Clark, “Dublin Blues”

One of the icons of American folk music has died. Doc Watson was a giant, a peerless guitar picker and an ambassador of Appalachian folk music to the wide world.

I heard a fellow musician say that one of his great talents was that he could make an old song sound new and a new song sound old. He, like his music is timeless.

Thanks, Doc.
