We got us a new Butch Cassidy movie coming out in October, called “Blackthorn.” Set in Bolivia, 1927. Looks spectacular to me. I love Sam Shepard and I have a bent for south-of-the-border frontier partisan antics in the early 20th Century. Bob Boze Bell of True West Magazine calls it “three hats from perfect” (read his blog entry and you’ll understand). I’ll be nagging my local independent movie theater (actually already have). I don’t want to have to wait for DVD on this one.
A note from Jim: I haven’t been keeping up my usual pace at Frontier Partisans on account of helping to produce the Sisters Folk Festival this month. Festival was great by the way. Got to hang out with the great Dave Alvin and talk about the origins of his song “Murietta’s Head.” A fine frontier partisan ballad if ever there was one. Anyway, I wanted to let you all know that I’m getting back in the saddle again and will have another full-on entry this week on Gen. Francisco Villa. Terrorist or freedom fighter? Bandit or revolutionary? Yes.
