The Adventurers, Rangers and Scouts Who Fought the Battles of Empire

Lt.-Col. Or Ben Yehuda earns the sobriquet “Lioness.” Her 33rd “Caracal” Battalion engaged in heavy fighting in the October 7 attacks by Hamas against military and civilian targets in Israel (see video). The IDF battalion reportedly killed 100 terrorists in a 14-hour firefight.

It wasn’t Ben-Yehuda’s first rodeo. As a captain, she was awarded a citation for actions when her battalion was ambushed near the Israel-Egypt border on October 22, 2014. Although wounded, Ben-Yehuda radioed for backup, administered first aid to her injured driver, and burned through multiple magazines returning fire while awaiting reinforcements.

Israel Defense Force:

The Caracal Battalion (33rd Battalion) is a coed infantry battalion in the Israel Defense Forces.

The battalion’s namesake, the Caracal cat, is common in the Arava Region of Israel, where the battalion first became operational. The battalion is under the command of the Sagi Regional Brigade in the Southern Command…

…The battalion was established in order to integrate women into the IDF’s combat system, and is comprised of about one-third men and two-thirds women. Female soldiers who serve in the battalion volunteer for combat service and undergo a special preparation program.

Most of the soldiers who join this battalion are members of a “Garin” program. This is a program that combines military service and the establishment of new agricultural communities. The original goal of the “Garin” program was to supply the IDF with soldiers while providing the basic needs for the founding of kibbutzim and new communities.

The Caracal Battalion is known for war paint…

Looks like I’m going to have to pick this book up. Maybe a good road book…

An elite secret society of killers has controlled the world’s treasures for hundreds of years…until one member tears himself free to salvage his soul and protect his daughter’s life in this electrifying and thrilling debut.

The single greatest work of art in the world is not in the Louvre or The Met, or in any private collection. In fact, its whereabouts are unknown.

Once in a long while, a child is born possessing the rarest of gifts, the innate ability to feel impossible beauty, to recognize priceless works of art. When such a child is discovered, a 250-year-old secret organization called Our World trains them to acquire the greatest works of art through theft, bribery, forgery, and even murder. Once found, the masterpiece will disappear again without anyone ever knowing it surfaced and sold for billions of dollars of profit at a secret auction attended by only the wealthiest of the art world’s patrons.

One of Our World’s rare geniuses is Zhivago. He is also a psychopathic killer. On his trail is Hunter, a man who will stop at nothing to destroy the organization and save his daughter from suffering the same fate her mother did at its hands.

Jack Carr’s next James Reece triller, Red Sky Mourning, has been announced for pre-order with a May 14, 2024, release:

A storm is on the horizon. America’s days are numbered. A Chinese submarine has gone rogue and is navigating towards the continental United States, putting its nuclear missiles within striking distance of the West Coast.

A rising Silicon Valley tech mogul with unknown allegiances is at the forefront of a revolution in quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence.

A politician controlled by a foreign power is a breath away from the Oval Office.

Three seemingly disconnected events are on a collision course to ignite a power grab unlike anything the world has ever seen.

The country’s only hope is a quantum computer that has gone dark, retreating to the deepest levels of the internet, learning at a rate inconceivable at her inception. But during her time in hiding, she has done more than learn. She has become a weapon. She is now positioned to act as either the country’s greatest savior or its worst enemy. She is known as “Alice” and her only connection to the outside world is to a former Navy SEAL sniper named James Reece who has left the violence of his past life behind.

Will the forces that threaten to destroy the United States be enough to light the fuse of Reece’s resurrection?

Artist Mark Wheatley did the cover for a soon-to-be-released Robert E. Howard Foundation special edition, Swords of the North. My favorite Frost Giant’s Daughter interpretation.

I’ve always been of two minds about women in combat. My natural instinct is to protect women, but I never doubted that there would be at least some women who could preform as well as men in that horrible situation.

My mother was secretary to a commander of a battalion of tanks when my dad was stationed in Germany in the military. From what I gathered the commander basically turned over command to her and spent his time reading books on Patton. My mother had a fair share of traditional feminine traits (loving, maternal, et cetera) but I can see her leading a tank battalion since she had a certain ferocity. Of course, she is scotch-irish so…
