From Salon:
“Westworld,” based loosely on a 1973 Michael Crichton film, is helmed by Jonathan Nolan, and executive produced by J.J. Abrams. Some of the excitement around it comes from the cast: Anthony Hopkins stars as a creepy doctor who designed a whacked-out amusement park stocked with androids. Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, and Thandie Newton also have major roles.
By the look of the trailer, the 10-episode series will be tense, slick, and thematically related to “The Matrix,” “Ex Machina,” and “Blade Runner,” involving questions about the nature of reality and the distinctions between human beings and artificial intelligence. It also includes a huge number of shoot-em-ups and a teasing display of a gun case that’s a bit disturbing given recent news; the series, which launches in October, could try to push the envelope on violence. Will there be room for the ideas?
Despite the required pearl-clutching, Salon opines that this may be HBO’s next great show (after Game of Thrones). Creepy reality-bending Western fixin’s? Yeah, I’m there.

I’m always DARING to question our notions of “reality”! Is there a “dream dreaming us”?, as Xhabbo the Bushman said in “A Story Like The Wind/A Far Off Place”? ARE we an alien manipulated species for milleniums? Or JUST what ARE the Gods? Are our modern governments just a screen to the REAL power? And it can be dangerous to question things TOO loudly, certainly. Not being enslaved by high-tech communication devices, and living rather isolated from other humans, allows me to actually think my own thoughts without distraction, for hours and hours, and sometimes days and days. This has become, alas, a RARITY in the modern high-tech world I’m afraid. But certainly an EXCELLENT means of controlling the masses, such lack of individual brain function, IF such CONTROL is on any group or individual’s agenda…….But there always tends to be one of those “skinny little ducks” on the back row that don’t do as they’re told and peek, disrupting the tyrants’ plans. Don’t know what I’m referring to with that example? Perhaps I should tell you the Lakota story of “Iktomi the trickster and the ducks” …….

…Except, well, dangit, no need to tell it here. OF COURSE you can now Google “Iktomi And the Ducks” and take yer choice of numerous different tellings! Even a dang Youtube entry!
