Drone Swarms, Battle Dogs & Dragon Fire

July 18, 2026, by JimC

We had a robust lightning storm roll through last Wednesday, and now a good chunk of Oregon is burning. Again. There’s dragon fire on our horizon, about 10 miles to the north of us, in much the same general area as last summer’s Flat Fire, which was a major incident that took half a dozen homes and forced hundreds to evacuate.

A trailer for Lioness Season 3 has dropped. Drone swarms. A battle dog. We’re in, of course…

Hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals collide. Joe walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange. Guided by Kaitlyn and Westfield, Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.

Drones are to today what the Maxim Gun was in the late 19th. Scary stuff. When the “mystery drones” were marauding the east coast a while back I came up with an idea to revive a “tactical blunderbuss” and get flechette rounds for 40 mm’s for anti drone work. Still not going to help you if a flock of them migrates onto your position though…

Stay safe, hoping old Smaug stays as far out of your neck of the woods as possible.

just took a look at your area on ‘Watch Duty’ – you aren’t exaggerating in the least. I’m in Idaho, and we’re slightly better off (so far) but biting our nails cuz we know its coming. Stay safe, compadre.

Thx man. Seems to have been a pretty good day on the Akawa Butte Fire. We’re not getting much smoke — but to the east of us they’ve got AQI of 500.

We promise not to tariff you when the smoke drifts up over the Medicine
    Line.
Instead we’ll try send firefighting resources, as good neighbours should.

    Stay safe.

Yeah… that bit of jackassery is embarrassing. People here are making jokes about Deschutes County slapping a tariff on Jefferson County. Gotta laugh, I guess. Sheesh.

If you lived up here, the laughter would be somewhat bitter.
