The latest Tales of the Rangers podcast is up — this one detailing the captivity of John Stark at the hands of the Abenaki in 1752. The tough, young frontiersman was a hunter and trapper who would go on to serve as second-in-command of Rogers Rangers in the French and Indian War. He would later play a pivotal role in the Saratoga Campaign in the American Revolution.

Well done again! I had no idea that “Live free or die” came from a John Stark quote. When a podcast that frequently features some of the toughest men in history opens immediately declaring someone a badass, the bar is set pretty high, but it sounds like Stark more than lived up to the label. I like that he seems to have held a grudging respect for the Abenaki tribe that captured him. He probably learned a thing or three during that time, and they probably learned a few things from him in return. Great stuff!

Thanks Joe. Stark was, indeed, next level on the meter.
