Landed in Cody, Wyoming, for a newspaper rendezvous. I tacked a day on at the back end so I can explore a bit, and I’ll post on that later.
Tonight we dine at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, and the staff is keeping the museum open for us for three hours past closing. Pretty cool. I am particularly excited to see the special exhibit Alfred Jacob Miller: Revisiting the Rendezvous — in Scotland and Today.
Here’s the caper:
Opened in Cody, Wyoming, on May 20, 2023, Revisiting the Rendezvous includes more than fifty paintings by American artist Alfred Jacob Miller (1810–1874), ranging from intimately scaled watercolors to large oil paintings, and artifacts from the Rocky Mountain fur trade era. The exhibition is complemented by public programs and digital resources.
Revisiting the Rendezvous provides interdisciplinary insights into Miller’s paintings made specially for his Scottish patron William Drummond Stewart in the mid-19th century. For the first time ever, a significant group of these works are reunited and reconsidered. The paintings were inspired by Miller’s 1837 trip with Stewart to the Wind River Mountains, displayed in Stewart’s Scottish estate, and then auctioned and dispersed throughout the world in 1871 following Stewart’s death. Amazingly, many ended up in collections around Wyoming, returning to the region that inspired their creation.
Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted to step right into Alfred Jacob Miller’s paintings, and to get to see a collection of originals, well… you can imagine that my Frontier Partisan heart is full.
The Cody Firearms Museum (same location) will be my destination on Saturday.
Will report in full later.

When I got into my room here in Buffalo Bill Village, and hooked up to the wi-fi, the first thing that popped up was a new trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon. Holy smokes. This truly looks magnificent.

Flying is hard on a 6’4″ frame, so I hit the “fitness center” right off. I like music with an 18th Century/Celtic flair when I work out — soundtracks from Last of the Mohicans, Outlander, and Black Sails. Found a playlist that offers just the right amount of drive. More pirates…
These are going to be regular for the Frontier Partisan Biathlon.

Great piratical tunes! I just read Black Flags, Blue Waters, which I had somehow missed. The book focused more on the “Red Sea Men”, than other texts I had read . The idea of New Englanders picking a brigandous fight with India of all places boggles my mind. Ecstacy of Gold I guess.
Either way, I may fire those songs up during burpees or singlestick drills!

PS; I wrote burpees in that last line, but the phone’s alchemy changed it to burgers. Very telling for society!

Fixed it. Sheesh.

Cody is awesome. Went there spring of 2021 and 2022. The first the was just to go to the museum and see the gun collection. Spent 2 days with my buddy and checked out all 5 museums. The second time was after visiting Big horn Battlefield, paid for a private your well worth the money.
They might have a new James Bama exhibit showcasing his photographic studies. Your blog was what led me to James Bama on the our last trip out that week. Thank you.
For food I recommend Bubba BBQ for breakfast and supper.

Excellent. The Bama exhibit isn’t up yet. I’m going to spend a good, long day there on Saturday.
