I promised I would send up a smoke signal when The Munros: A Personal Journey dropped the new, in-depth episode on the Glen Coe Massacre. I’m a couple of days late, but I have a very good excuse: I was required to report to The Alamo. Seriously.
I’ve been in San Antonio, Texas, for the past few days, at a newspaper conference. Some Frontier Partisans exploration has been made, including a recce of The Alamo, and the Menger Hotel, where TR was headquartered when the Rough Riders gathered in San Antonia. I will make a full report very soon.
I’ve been watching Knives in the Dark: Engineering the Glen Coe Massacre before crashing out at night. It is worthy, and it drives home the truth of Doña Alfonsa’s assertion in All the Pretty Horses that:
“What is constant in history is greed and foolishness and a love of blood and this is a thing that even God–who knows all that can be known — seems powerless to change.”
