Working The Trapline — Baptized & Buried On The Terminal List

February 1, 2023, by JimC

Sharpen up your tomahawks, Frontier Partisans. Jack Carr’s The Terminal List is getting a second season. From Deadline:

The Terminal List is continuing — and becoming a franchise for Amazon Studios. I have learned that Prime Video has finalized a Season 2 renewal for the hit series starring and executive produced by Chris Pratt, and also has picked up an untitled prequel/Ben Edwards origin series headlined and executive produced by Taylor Kitsch, from The Terminal List creator/executive producer David DiGilio.

Western frontier vibes…

Blame Benjamin Church. Chasing him around the woods and swamps of New England — along with the announcement of Todish and Zaboly’s French & Indian War Ranger book — set me to trailing the Ranger as a frontier archetype. This may lead to something with some heft to it, if I can figure out how to frame it. Some visual signposts will give you an idea of where this trail might lead…

Looking forward to seeing where you head on the ranging way of war. Given the length of the existing history, the Lindy effect suggests that rangers will continue to be around for a while.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t plug some of the local continuity and persistence regarding rangers. See the Indiana Rangers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Rangers), an early 19th Century mounted militia patrolling the Indiana Territory, and the Indiana Rangers (https://armyhistory.org/company-d-151st-infantry-the-indiana-rangers-vietnam/), an Army National Guard unit deployed to Vietnam and tasked with long range patrols there.

    Foreshadowing your DMR Books post?

Or is the DMR Books post itself a foreshadow? 😉

Well, I enjoyed doing the DMR post, and I think there’s a lot more there to explore. I just don’t know what it might look like.

I would certainly like to see more on the ranger front.
