Here’s a bit of synchronicity. Just in time for the release of Part III of The Frontier Partisans Podcast on King Philip’s War — The War Spreads. Atun-Shei Films produced what turns out to be an excellent companion piece for the episode, as the Nipmuc jump into the fray and lash the Massachusetts Bay Colony furiously. Ambush tactics play hell with the colonial militias through the summer and fall of 1675, and settlements up and down the Connecticut River are attacked, abandoned and destroyed.
Listen to the podcast here or on most podcasting platforms.
Atun-Shei Films has produced some entertaining and solid work on King Philip’s War (including an update video correcting and amplifying some of the work done in earlier videos). Andrew Rakich takes a pretty dim view of Benjamin Church, which I do not agree with. We’ll get into that in a future episode. In any case, this video is worth a half-hour of your time. Hat tip to Clint Richards for scouting it up.

Your welcome. I recently saw a video on the Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, and reminded me of how the Native Americans in the North East became dependent on trade goods from Europeans. This REALLY happened to the Ainu which, not surprisingly, led to exploitation.

Another solid episode.
Really in my stomping ground now! My sister has lived in Sunderland for decades. Check the map – across the CT river from the southern end of Deerfield.

Heart of the action.

Another great episode, smelling the musket smoke and burning corn!

Glad it hit in the black.

I don’t always agree with the conclusions on the Atun Shei channel, but he produces some quality content and it’s always wise to listen to alternative perspectives.
JimC says
Same.

I really enjoyed You tube video, thanks for sharing.
I’ve always been fascinated by King Phillip’s War. As a kid visiting relatives in Simbury CT was always hoping to visit sites related to the war. My cousin took me to Talcott Mtn cave where supposedly King Phillip from a cave watched Simbury burn
JimC says
Glad it resonated Westley.
Clint Richards says
yay! So glad you found the video useful.
Thanks for the hat tip. It was my pleasure to offer it up as a contribution to the effort.

Thanks Stanley.

Interesting stuff.
The period of time not being talked about much because “it was not flattering to either side ” is a telling way of putting it.
Thank you Jim for what you do AND that you present stuff in full color without the “white washing”
JimC says
Thank you Allan. I appreciate your support.

Amen. We cannot claim one group is good and one is bad. That is still true today but very few would agree with that. We each look at the world from a biased point of view. Other than kindness and love, which are real, the things we call evil are specific to a particular point of view. Wonderful podcast.
JimC says
Thank you Jean.

“Warriors Of The Dawn”? Sink-wren-awe-city? I’m reading a book RIGHT NOW(and loving it) titled “Dawn Land”, about the “People Of The Dawn”, the Abenaki, by Joseph Bruchac. Based on Abenaki legends, it follows characters thousands of years before the European invasion, soon after the Ice Age. As it involves DOG characters(which the Abenaki especially favored as companions, hunters, and protectors), Mister Bruchac had me at the get-go! AND OF COURSE this book has a coupla SEQUELS, which I have already ordered!
JimC says
Wonderful. The Abenaki need more attention from Frontier Partisans.
