An Archer From The Timbers Of Fennario

March 28, 2022, by JimC

Orissa Kelly is obviously a Wood Elf who wandered far from the Timbers of Fennario to delight the world with her uncanny skills. What else can explain this?

From her website:

Orissa began gymnastics at the age of 3 and went on to compete for Great Britain. At the age of 17 she cancelled her university application just months before starting and followed her heart by joining the circus! After performing aerial silks professionally for a few years, Orissa still craved for something even crazier – even more unique.

In April 2015 Orissa bought her first bow and arrow, went to a cricket field and began teaching herself a skill that was unheard of. After training everyday, 6 hours a day for 6 months she created her foot archery act that would go on to take her around the world.

Since then she has gone on to perform for the Queen of England, appear in the Hollywood Blockbuster ‘Wonder Woman’ and travel the world twice over with her beloved Bae (her bow). In 2020 Orissa aimed for the stars and moved to the USA, with her US TV debut on ‘The Go Big Show’

OK, maybe I’ve been overdosing on folklore again, but that is something not entirely of this world…

There is nothing like a beautiful woman with a weapon. I’m not sure why that is.

Reminds me of novel/comic strip character Modesty Blaise, an ex-criminal turned spy. She was a beautiful woman who also used a bow. Orissa would be a natural to play her in a movie.

The ’80s brother-duo Sparks–the one on keyboard looked uncomfortably like Oswald Mosely–wrote a theme song for a TV series on Modesty. When the networks didn’t pick it up, they were stuck with a song they couldn’t use the name Modesty Blaise in for copyright restrictions. So they renamed it Modest Plays:

      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
She may like caviar and cocktails
She may like symphonies and sun
But underneath the gown and high heels
She’s like a fully loaded gun
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
The world is running out of heroes
The world is running out of time
Where are those martial arts maneuvers
      We’re getting massacred by crime
Well listen buddy don’t you worry
She may not look like Genghis Khan
And she may talk about her manicure
But she can sure get things done
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
      Don’t underestimate the lady
She may seem cultured and demure
But there’s another side, and careful
      She’ll hit you like a 2×4
The world is running out of heroes
      And everybody’s out on bail
As long as Modesty is on our side
      Good will surely prevail
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays
      Modesty Plays Modesty Plays

        Hah!
Looking like Oswald mosely might be even more fraught now, in the wake of Peaky Blinders.

Perhaps it’s because sex and death are both intrinsic parts of life. In Victorian times, the French phrase “la petite mort” or “the little death” was a popular euphemism for an orgasm. Leave it to the French to come up with that.

There’s something about archery and women and gymnastics is a kind of physical alchemy. One thing I like to see is women doing martial arts any kind of martial arts-

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sAueLnaG74

Here is a South Shaolin Girl from Hongkong one of my friends was a Choy Li Fut master he told the story about tournaments in H.K. No weight class and mixed sex’s. His friend pulled a tall girl underestimated her “Its a girl” lol

She kicked his @$$ bad to get beat but all of his friends saw it- bu hao! Turns out her dad was a Tibetan White Crane teacher.

“You never know what they have in their purse”

    A’int it the truth- lol

Yes she is very good, its Choy Li Fut, don’t know the name of the form- I can’t read deaf and dumb in Chinese. She has whip power they don’t hold back in that system full extension. Its gonna hurt- lol

A couple more ladies doing kung fu- different systems.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm76-FGnJ1Y

Here is a older lady doing the old Snake system may be a form from the Snake system shown in the old Jackie Chan movie “Snake in the eagle shadow” like a lot of old Chinese martial arts may be almost extinct now- found it by chance surfing around. Thought I would share.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMAx29Pro58

Above is a lady doing a linking form from Xing Yi she is very good- North China internal system a sister art of Ba Gua and Tai Chi-.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pne-N3plNso

Last one a young lady doing Ba Gua, again- a sister art of Tai Chi and Xing I- so call “internal divisions.

Wish more women would train hard to find a good teacher I guess and traditional martial arts are not something you can do just when you feel like it. The balletic effect of it when they do it is amazing- the yogic and cardio, weight lifting aspect with heavy weapons etc its all there.

Lots of benifit from practicing any martial art. Chinese martial arts have a huge amount of things to offer, The payoff is small for the time invested in combat skills with C.M.A. if you are talking about short duration training compared to Japanese, Korean, Pinoy systems, MMA, boxing etc But the pay off is big if you invest a lot of time and finish the training.

Never got even close to that far from it never was good at it but no matter used it to rehab myself a half dozen times, good morale training, interesting in everyway- learn something about life etc. You can do it anywhere, no special clothes, no expensive equipment, once you learn it you don’t need to go anywhere just work it on your own Great hobby. “Like putting money in the bank”

    And anyway.

Ammo is to expensive- and golf bores the hell out of me. lol
