Tom Russell, one of the great American singer-songwriters, done wrote a book. Against The Blood.
“A few words on the saga: Welcome to 1953. A Pima Indian and a young cowboy songwriter are driving across the Great Western Deserts on an odyssey to pick up a load of saddles… discussing Western history in a dying film era when there were 100,00 horses in the L.A Basin.
A coming of age, behind the barns saga, in an America soon to be altered by color TV, corn flake commercials, freeways, and rock and roll. Bad trouble ensues.
Hold Fast, dear reader. Hang and rattle.”

This book will be ordered shortly. I have been looking for a novel to read. I am especially drawn to anything about the closing of the horse era.
You might remember that in my riff on past lives I wrote:
“There is something missing this time and it took me a long time to figure it out. The horses are gone and things just aren’t the same without them.”
